The David Findlay Rosebowl Competition

The Competition is suspended in 2018, but will be reinstated when there are sufficient groups to take part.

Open to all teams of young dancers under the age of 18

Aims

  1. To give teams of young dancers the chance to show each other their own skills
  2. To give young dancers the opportunity to dance together.

 Classes

Class 1: Competing for the Bill Forrester Cup. For dancers who have not yet reached their 10th birthday
Class 2: Competing for the David Findlay Rosebowl. For dancers who have reached their 10th but not their 13th birthday
Class 3: Competing for the Ruby Watson Shield. For dancers who have reached their 13th but not their 18th birthday
Class 4:Competing for the George Mechan Trophy. Open. For any dancers who have not yet reached their 18th birthday

Rules

  1. The team teacher/organiser will choose the dance to be danced in the Class concerned. If desired, the same dance may be used in any or all of Classes 1 to 3 by different teams from the same organisation. The fact that a dance has been chosen by one teacher will not prevent another teacher from also choosing it. Single dances of established origin (Reel, Jig, Strathspey or Medley) must be chosen.
  2. Each team may have either 6, 8, or 10, dancers.
  3. Each team may have up to 2 dancers older or younger than the age range.
  4. Each couple in a team must dance once from first place.
  5. A dance offered by a teacher/organiser in any of Classes 1 to 3 may not be offered by that organisation in Class 4
  6. Music will be on an appropriate CD – either provided by the teacher, or by Dundee Branch after consultation with the teacher. If a Dundee Branch CD is used, an opportunity to hear the music (and, if necessary, to modify the tempo) may be given in advance of the competition.

Assessment
The Adjudicator will be a person of experience in teaching dancing to children and will take account of the age of the dancers, the demands required by the dance chosen, and general ability at executing the steps.

Entry Fee
£1 per dancer (to help defray costs of refreshments)
