Beginners' Class / Ceilidh to Country Class
We have named our Beginners' Class 'Ceilidh to Country' to highlight the links and differences in Ceilidh Dancing and Scottish Country Dancing. Some very simple dances are used in Ceilidh Dancing - such as The Virginia Reel and The Flying Scotsman. Some more complicated dances such as Postie's Jig are also included in Ceilidh programmes. The C2C class starts with some couple dances, other regular ceilidh dances and builds in learning of the formations and terminology used in Scottish Country Dancing to enable participants to extend their skills. Gradually more and more Scottish Country Dances are introduced.

Cost : £6 per class or £55 for a block of 12 classes. Students £4 per class.
For anyone new to dancing with the Branch we are offering a free class on the 16th September.
Intermediate Class with live music
This class is for those dancers who started in Ceilidh to Country or Beginners and wish to develop their skills more. This class is led by Lorna Valentine and will allow dancers to improve their technique while enjoying lots of interesting dances. It is held on Mondays from 7.30-9pm, starting again on 7th September 2026 at St Mary Magdalene's Church Hall, DD1 5RR, off North Marketgait, Dundee. Live music provides extra enjoyment.
Cost: £6 per class for Branch / RSCDS members, £30 for a 6 week block. £7 per class for non-members. Students £4 per class.

Advanced Class with Live Music
This class is for dancers with a good knowledge of steps and formations and who wish to learn more challenging dances. Some time is spent on technique and less common formations, with considerable emphasis on teamwork and social dancing. The dancing in this class is medium to high impact. This class benefits from having an excellent musician to play each night.
Classes are held on Thursdays 7-9 pm, starting on 10th September 2026 in the Dance Studio, Harris Academy Sports Complex, DD2 INL. The class is taught by Fiona Mackie.
For parking, take the ramp to the west of the school. Press the pad to the right of the doors to gain entry to the building. After going through another set of doors, go diagonally left to the Physical Education Department. Turn right into the Dance Studio (if you get lost, ask at reception!). (NB: In the event of a school open evening, car parking may be limited. Anyone who arrives by car can find alternative public parking on nearby streets, eg West Park Road.)
Cost: £7 per class for Branch / RSCDS members, £35 for a 6 week block. £8 per class for non-members. Students £4.
For anyone new to dancing with the Branch, we are offering a free class on the 10th September.
Dancers from this class make up the Branch Demonstration Team. We perform at events throughout our area, helping to promote Scottish Country Dancing in Dundee and pass on our enjoyment of the dance to others.

Social Dancing Class
The emphasis of this class is very much on social dancing. Here you will learn dances old and new, popular and less well known, and all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The teachers are happy to take requests for a particular dance and often will revise dances for upcoming events. This class is low/medium impact, and could be a useful transition between the Intermediate and Advanced classes. Tea/coffee is provided, so please bring your own cup. The class is taught in rotation by Sue Steele, Alison Malcolm and Joyce Porteous. Class dates: Tuesdays 7-9 pm. Also starts again on 8th September 2026.
Classes are held in St Andrew's Hall of Kingsgait Kirk, King Street, Dundee (east of the Wellgate Centre, one block north of the bus station). For the access code to the car park, please get in touch (rscdsdundee@gmail.com). Alternatively, there is parking in Queen Street off the Seagate (opposite Enterprise car hire) and steps up to King Street. To open the glass door, press the pad on the wall to the right, and the hall is one floor up.
