Adult Classes
From September until Easter, we run a Ceilidh to Country Class, an Intermediate class, a Social Dancing Class and an Advanced Class. All the classes are very relaxed and informal. There is no dress code, but dance shoes are advisable. Soft shoes such as sneakers are ok for the Ceilidh class and Social Dancing class to begin with. If in doubt about your level, try the Ceilidh class first or get in touch and we can advise which might be most suitable rscdsdundee@gmail.com
Ceildh to Country Class
This class is for people with a little, or no experience of Scottish Country Dancing, and for those wishing to learn more of the formations and popular dances. This class is led by Bill and Mary Cant on Wednesday evenings from September and further details are available here.
Intermediate Class
This class on Monday evenings follows on from the Beginners' class. This class is led by Lorna Valentine and will allow dancers to improve their technique while enjoying lots of interesting dances.
Social Dancing
The emphasis of this class is very much on social dancing. Here you will learn dances old and new, popular and less well known, and all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This class is low/medium impact, and could be a useful transition from the Beginners' to the Advanced class. Tea/coffee is provided, so please bring your own cup. The class is taught in rotation by Sue Steele, Alison Malcolm and Joyce Porteous.
These classes take place on Tuesdays from September to March.
Classes are held in St Andrew's Hall of St Andrew's Parish Church (Kingsgait Kirk), King Street, Dundee (east of the Wellgate Centre, one block north of the bus station). For the access code to the car park, please get in touch (rscdsdundee@gmail.com). Alternatively, there is parking in Queen Street off the Seagate (opposite Enterprise car hire) and steps up to King Street. To open the glass door, press the pad on the wall to the right, and the hall is one floor up.
Advanced Class with Live Music
This class is for dancers with a good knowledge of steps and formations and who wish to learn more challenging dances. Some time is spent on technique and less common formations, with considerable emphasis on teamwork and social dancing. The dancing in this class is medium to high impact. This class benefits from having an excellent musician to play each night.
Classes are on Thursdays from September in the Dance Studio, Harris Academy Sports Complex. The cost for RSCDS members is £6 per night; £30 for a set 6-week block; Students £3 per night or £15 for 6 weeks. The specific blocks of classes start at the beginning of the session and the class secretary will advise. Non-RSCDS members are £8 per night. The class is taught by Fiona Mackie.
For parking, take the ramp to the west of the school. Press the pad to the right of the doors to gain entry to the building. After going through another set of doors, go diagonally left to the Physical Education Department. Turn right into the Dance Studio (if you get lost, ask at reception!).
(NB: In the event of a school open evening, car parking may be limited. Anyone who arrives by car can find alternative public parking on nearby streets, eg West Park Road.)
Dancers from this class make up the Branch Demonstration Team. We perform at events throughout our area, helping to promote Scottish Country Dancing in Dundee and pass on our enjoyment of the dance to others.
